All shows start at 9 PM and tickets will be available 2 weeks prior to the show at Ducky’s (536-1344).
On Saturday, September 29, TBS presents the Sonya Rae Taylor band, featuring Bruce Bears (Boston).
Boston native, Sonya Rae is a rising star with a blend of gifts rarely found on the blues-rock and soul scene. Her dazzling musical ability is immediately evident through her soaring vocals, scorching guitar work and savvy song-craft. Always backed by a masterful group of musicians from Boston, including our favourite Bruce Bears (who we have seen on keys for Toni Lynn Washington) she is quickly becoming one of the most sought after acts on the Boston scene today. You can find a taste of her solo blues performances and writing capabilities on Facebook here. See her at her soulful best here; and with a close approximation of the band she will be travelling with to Sackville here.
On Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24, TBS presents the Anthony Gomes band (St. Louis)
What can we say about Anthony that you don’t already know? The Toronto singer/songwriter/guitarist is propelling blues rock into the contemporary music culture with his unapologetic approach to reinventing the genre in relevant and fresh ways. “The blues is old, but not tired” said Anthony, adding: “It speaks as truthfully today, and for this generation, as it ever has.” Blues Music Magazine writes that, “the formidable guitar chops and authentic singing place him in the forefront of modern blues.” This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the circuit today. And the facts speak for themselves. Gomes has performed in 17 countries and has shared the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa, Heart, Jonny Lang, Sammy Hagar, 38 Special, Robert Cray and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. We have had him play for us twice below to sold out performances, which is partly why we are having him do two shows for us. Here is a taste of his incendiary live performances, and another from the Montreal Jazz Festival; as I am sure you will agree, this is rocking’ blues at its creative best.
As we begin our 18th series, our evolution continues. We are experimenting with presenting on Friday night and Saturday night to allow our members some flexibility and to work with the logistical realities we face today. We are also looking into bringing back food (this time with an African twist) that goes with the music. We hope to continue to have the gift of your support.
